A 23-year-old man, Iliayasu Mohammed, has been taken into custody by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command for allegedly killing his friend, Safillahi Muhammad, after inviting him over for a meal at his home in Dantata Village, Abuja.

FCT Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh, in a statement, disclosed that officers responded to a distress call around 1:30 PM on February 13, 2025.

When they arrived at the scene, they discovered Muhammad unconscious in a pool of blood, suffering from multiple cutlass wounds to his head and body. He was rushed to a hospital but did not survive.

“Investigations suggest that the suspect lured the victim to his residence, offered him food, and then suddenly attacked him with a cutlass while he was eating,” Adeh stated.

Further inquiries uncovered that Mohammed had previously served a prison sentence and was allegedly involved in a criminal syndicate known for targeting motorcyclists.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to the murder and revealed details about the gang, which is believed to be led by an individual identified as Hassan, who is still at large.

Authorities have since launched a search for other gang members who fled the scene. Adeh confirmed that Mohammed would face prosecution once investigations are concluded.

Meanwhile, the FCT Commissioner of Police has urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities, assuring residents of the police force’s continued efforts to maintain security in the area.
