Residents of Ita-Eku, Igirigiri Road, Odo-Ado in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, were left in shock on Tuesday following the tragic death of a couple who fatally attacked each other during a violent altercation.
The deceased, identified as a police officer and his wife, were found lifeless with deep wounds and multiple cuts on their bodies.
According to a source familiar with the situation, the husband, Caleb, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), and his wife, Tate, had been experiencing marital conflicts, primarily over allegations of infidelity.
“The dispute escalated when the wife accused her husband of having extramarital affairs, a recurring issue in their relationship,” the source revealed.
During the heated confrontation, Tate allegedly grabbed a knife and severed her husband’s genitals. In a desperate act of retaliation, Caleb, despite being severely injured, reached for a cutlass and fatally attacked his wife.
Both sustained critical injuries, bled profusely, and succumbed to their wounds. Their bodies have since been taken to the mortuary.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, stated that investigations were underway to establish the full details of the tragic event.
“The case has been reported, and an investigation is ongoing to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding their deaths. Meanwhile, their remains have been deposited in the morgue,” Abutu said.
