The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out an airstrike that eliminated several bandits following an attack on a Police Mobile Force (PMF) base in Zaka village, Katsina State. The assault, which took place on Saturday, led to the deaths of two PMF personnel and four local vigilantes.
In response to the attack, NAF deployed its air assets to neutralize the threat and prevent further escalation. However, some residents have raised concerns about possible civilian casualties during the operation.
Providing an update on the situation, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, confirmed that the airstrike was executed on February 15, 2025, at Yauni Hill in Zakka Ward, Safana Local Government Area.
“The operation successfully neutralized multiple bandits and played a key role in preventing further attacks on security personnel,” he stated.
He explained that intelligence reports had indicated an imminent assault on a PMF base, prompting a swift air response to counter the threat.
“NAF aircraft engaged identified targets upon arrival. However, reports of civilian casualties are being taken seriously, and necessary steps will be taken to ascertain the facts,” he added.
To address these concerns, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has ordered an investigation into the incident to verify the claims and ensure appropriate measures are taken.
NAF has urged the public to remain calm while the investigation is underway, emphasizing its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of innocent lives.
