BREAKING: Impeached Lagos Speaker, Obasa stirs support during street rally

Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, caused a stir on Tuesday as he took to the streets of Lagos, drawing large crowds of passionate supporters.

This comes one day after security forces took control of the Assembly complex in a move that sparked controversy.

Obasa, who was removed from office on January 13 due to allegations of financial misconduct, appeared unaffected by his impeachment.

A video shared by journalist Rufai Oseni showed Obasa walking confidently among his supporters and acknowledging their cheers.

On Monday, armed operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police entered the Lagos State House of Assembly, with many viewing the action as an attempt to reinstate Obasa.

The security forces took over key areas of the complex, including the Speaker’s office and the Clerk’s office, while restricting access to lawmakers, staff, and visitors.

Despite the disruption, the Assembly managed to convene later, where members expressed outrage over the security presence, calling it an attack on democracy.

The lawmakers condemned the takeover and questioned the intent behind the operation.

In response to the events, the Assembly passed a unanimous vote of confidence in the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, affirming their support for her leadership and rejecting any external interference in the legislative process. Following this, the House adjourned indefinitely.
