Airtel Nigeria has adjusted its data and call tariffs, implementing price increases on various plans, with some data bundles experiencing up to a 50% hike.
The new pricing structure, which was published on the company’s website on Monday, reflects the rising operational expenses faced by telecom operators due to inflation, foreign exchange fluctuations, and increasing costs of network expansion.
Although Airtel has yet to release an official statement regarding the tariff adjustment, a senior company official confirmed the changes.
The official clarified that while data prices have been revised, the increase does not reach the 50% threshold in all cases.
Despite the adjustments, Airtel reassured subscribers of continued affordability, emphasizing that its internet services remain fast, reliable, and accessible.
Customers were encouraged to check updated pricing by dialing *312#.
The revised data rates apply to daily, weekly, and monthly plans, with price changes affecting various bundles. Some of the notable adjustments include increases in short-term data plans such as daily and weekly subscriptions, with additional incentives like extra nighttime browsing for specific packages.
Beyond data, the telecom provider has also raised call tariffs, following a broader industry trend of price adjustments.
MTN Nigeria, the largest telecom operator in the country, has also implemented similar changes, increasing charges for calls, SMS, and data services.
These adjustments, which were approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission, have been introduced gradually over the past week.
The latest price hikes come as telecom companies struggle with economic challenges, including rising inflation, fluctuating foreign exchange rates, and the escalating costs associated with expanding and maintaining network infrastructure.
While the increases aim to ensure service sustainability and long-term improvements, consumers may feel the financial impact as communication costs rise.
