The House of Representatives Committee on Renewable Energy has postponed the inaugural National Legislative Summit and Expo on Renewable Energy to May 5 and 6, 2025.
The event, initially scheduled for February 24 to 27 at Eko Hotel, Lagos, was rescheduled following consultations between the committee and the Office of the Speaker.
Chairman of the committee, Rep. Afam Ogene, announced the new dates in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, explaining that the change would allow for an expanded scope and better accommodate the growing number of stakeholders interested in participating.
Themed “Renew Nigeria: Unlocking Opportunities,” the summit aims to drive sustainable growth in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector and explore opportunities for development.
According to Ogene, the summit will feature high-level stakeholder engagements, industry assessments, and priority actions based on the renewable energy provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to investing in renewable energy to promote sustainability and encourage widespread adoption of clean energy solutions.
Rep. Ogene expressed confidence that the summit would play a key role in addressing Nigeria’s electricity supply challenges and enhancing national energy security.
He highlighted that the 10th House of Representatives, under Speaker Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has made the development of renewable energy a top priority. In a historic move, the Speaker established the Committee on Renewable Energy to drive policies, track progress, and attract investments in the sector.
Additionally, the House has recently adopted a resolution mandating government ministries, departments, and agencies to transition to renewable energy sources for their power needs, reinforcing the commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
