Governor Dikko Radda has justified the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s “resounding victory” in the February 15 local government elections, attributing the outcome to the public’s trust in the party’s leadership.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Mohammed, Governor Radda expressed his satisfaction with the results, noting that the APC’s success in all 34 chairmanship races was a testament to the party’s widespread support.
The Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KTSIEC) announced the results, confirming that the APC won all 34 chairmanship and 361 councillorship seats. The governor congratulated the newly elected chairmen and praised the peaceful and transparent nature of the elections, calling it a significant achievement in the state’s democratic development.
“The peaceful conduct of the elections highlights the maturity of our democracy and the unwavering commitment of our people to peaceful participation in the political process,” Governor Radda said in the statement.
He added that the absence of violence and the high voter turnout were clear indicators of citizens’ dedication to democratic values.
The governor further emphasized that the APC’s clean sweep reflected the public’s trust in the party’s governance, signaling their approval of its policies and leadership.
Speaking on the results, the Chairman of the Katsina State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Salima Lawal, acknowledged the election outcome.
While noting that there were concerns and differences within the group, Lawal expressed recognition of the APC’s victory and applauded the progress made in the state’s democratic journey.
He also commended the candidates who contested but did not win, honoring their courage and commitment to serving the state.
KTSIEC Chairman, Lawal Alhassan, explained the delay in announcing the final results, revealing that not all local governments had submitted their results on the election day.
As of midnight, 24 out of the 34 councils had submitted their results. The remaining 10 councils, including Batsari, Charanchi, Dandume, and others, submitted their results the following day, allowing the commission to complete the collation and announce the final results.
Alhassan also noted that five political parties participated in the elections: Accord (A), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Boot Party (BP).
In a reaction to the results, IPAC Chairman Salima Boyi conceded defeat, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic principles for the benefit of the state.
Boyi commended KTSIEC for ensuring a peaceful and transparent election, acknowledging that despite any differences, the elections marked a step forward in strengthening democracy in Katsina.
