Security operatives from the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigeria Police arrived at the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday morning, sealing the offices of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, her deputy, and the clerk.
Armed officers were stationed around the premises in Alausa, Ikeja, stopping and searching passersby.
We gathered that despite the situation, Meranda arrived at the Assembly with her convoy at around 11:15 a.m.
The development follows the recent removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who was sacked while he was in the United States, AFRIPOST had reported.
His removal, backed by 32 out of 40 lawmakers on January 13, 2025, has been described as controversial.
Obasa in response, has filed a lawsuit at the Lagos State High Court, challenging the legitimacy of his impeachment and requesting an urgent hearing.
The case has sparked division within the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), a key political body in Lagos.
Obasa argued that his removal did not follow constitutional procedures and has asked the court to speed up proceedings to prevent disruptions to legislative activities.
The court is expected to rule on the matter in the coming days.
