The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has refuted claims of a system collapse in 2025, clarifying that only transmission line tripping has occurred.
In a statement posted on its X handle on Saturday, TCN emphasized that there had been no nationwide grid failure.
It explained that on February 12, a tripping incident affected the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330-kilovolt (kV) transmission line, while the Benin-Egbin 330 kV line was already offline for scheduled maintenance.
This led to a cascading outage, temporarily disrupting electricity supply in parts of Abuja, Lagos, and Osogbo.
TCN assured the public that other regions remained unaffected and that full restoration of bulk power supply to the impacted areas had been completed.
The company also underscored that the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) operates under the regulations of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
It noted that the National Control Centre System Operator, or its designated backup, the National Supplementary Control Centre (SNCC), is the only authorized body to provide official updates on the national grid’s status.
TCN urged the public and media to rely solely on information from its Public Affairs Department and avoid spreading unverified reports about the grid.
