Security operatives in Kebbi State have successfully eliminated four suspected kidnappers, apprehended one, and rescued a 60-year-old man, Umaru Bawa, in Suru Local Government Area.
The operation also led to the recovery of ₦3 million, which had already been paid as ransom.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the incident took place on February 14, 2025, when armed men raided Gobiraje village in Suru LGA and abducted Bawa.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Suru quickly mobilized officers and local vigilantes, tracking the suspects to Tundafari Forest in the Dakingari axis.
A fierce gunfight erupted between security forces and the kidnappers, resulting in the deaths of four suspects and the arrest of one, who sustained severe injuries.
Some of the criminals managed to flee into the forest with gunshot wounds. Meanwhile, the victim was rescued unharmed, and the ransom money was recovered.
Commending the officers for their bravery and swift action, Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M Sani, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety.
He encouraged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police to strengthen security efforts.
The statement highlighted the ongoing measures by law enforcement to curb kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.
