Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has authorized the long-awaited promotion of 8,476 teachers in primary and junior secondary schools across the state’s 18 local government areas.
Announcing the approval, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (Edo-SUBEB), Mrs. Onomen Goodness Briggs, emphasized the governor’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding teachers for their dedication.
She stated that the move not only acknowledges their efforts but also aims to improve the overall quality of education in the state.
Briggs commended the governor’s proactive leadership, describing it as a breath of fresh air for the basic education sector.
She highlighted that the initiative, which covers promotions from 2022 to January 2024, is a crucial step toward comprehensive reforms that prioritize educators and enhance learning outcomes.
The decision has been widely praised by education stakeholders, who believe that boosting teachers’ morale will translate into better classroom performance and a more vibrant educational system.
“This decisive action reflects Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to overhauling the education sector and ensuring that bureaucratic delays no longer hinder progress.
“As his administration continues to implement reforms, this directive demonstrates his determination to resolve longstanding challenges and achieve meaningful results within his first 100 days in office,” Briggs added.
