The Senate has raised concerns over the current single payment system, describing it as a major hindrance to Nigeria’s economic progress.
During Thursday’s plenary session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio criticized the system, stating that it was stalling development and should be discontinued immediately.
He emphasized the need for a comprehensive reform to enhance efficiency and accelerate economic growth.
Lawmakers also condemned the centralized payment policy, which mandates over 700 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to process transactions through a single office.
They argued that the system has resulted in inefficiencies, delayed project execution, and a loss of public confidence, particularly in communities awaiting essential infrastructure projects.
