The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to collaborating with the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) to enhance crime prevention and improve the country’s criminal justice system.

Egbetokun made this pledge on Friday, February 14, 2025, when he received the Acting Comptroller-General of the NCS, Sylvester Nwakuche Ndidi, and other senior officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

During the meeting, Ndidi emphasized the NCS’s ongoing rehabilitation and reformation efforts aimed at transforming correctional facilities into centres of rehabilitation rather than mere detention centres.

He also revealed plans to develop an updated criminal database to improve record-keeping and enhance the efficiency of the correctional system.

“The NCS is committed to ensuring that correctional facilities focus on rehabilitation and reintegration rather than just confinement. A comprehensive criminal database will also help track offenders effectively,” Ndidi stated.

In response, the IGP assured him of the police force’s support, stressing the importance of collaboration in ensuring an effective justice system.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to working with the NCS and other relevant agencies to strengthen the criminal justice system,” Egbetokun said.

Meanwhile, the IGP also received senior officers of the ASP Course 22/2005, who marked their 20th year in service.

He congratulated them and urged them to uphold integrity, transparency, and accountability in their duties.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to professionalism and inter-agency cooperation, expressing optimism that such partnerships would lead to meaningful reforms and a more efficient justice system.
