Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has strongly condemned the Canadian Embassy for refusing visas to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, and several high-ranking military officials.
Ribadu’s remarks followed Musa’s revelation at the National Association of the Institute for Security Studies (AANISS) annual lecture in Abuja on Thursday.
Musa disclosed that his delegation had been invited to Canada for a ceremony honouring war veterans, but nearly half of the team was denied entry.
Describing the situation as “disappointing,” Musa stated that it serves as a lesson for Nigeria to remain resolute and independent on the global stage.
“Every setback comes with a lesson. I was supposed to be in Canada yesterday for an event recognizing our veterans and those wounded in combat.
“While part of our team made the trip, the rest were denied visas. It’s quite discouraging,” Musa said.
In response, Ribadu praised Musa for openly addressing the issue, expressing his frustration with Canada’s decision.
“Thank you for the courage to say that Canada denied you visas. They can go to hell,” Ribadu remarked.
Despite the setback, Ribadu emphasized that Nigeria remains a stable and resilient nation and must continue to navigate such diplomatic challenges.
He also commended Musa’s leadership in combating insecurity, highlighting the collaborative efforts among security agencies to tackle threats across the country.
