Edo govt prohibits unions from collecting haulage fees

The Edo State Government has prohibited unions from collecting dues at haulage fee points across the state, emphasizing that only authorized revenue collectors are permitted to handle such transactions.

Oladele Bankole-Balogun, Executive Chairman of the Edo Inland Revenue Service (EIRS), made this announcement in Benin on Wednesday, describing the practice as unacceptable.

“Only authorized revenue collectors are permitted to collect haulage fees through the issuance of revenue scratch cards. Haulage fee points must remain dedicated to their primary purpose,” he stated.

He explained that restricting haulage fee points to their intended functions would reduce confusion and ensure smoother operations. While the government remains committed to working with unions to maintain peace and order, it will not tolerate the illegal collection of dues, he added.

To enforce compliance, Bankole-Balogun disclosed that security agencies had been notified and directed to take necessary actions against violators.

He urged all stakeholders to adhere to the directive, reaffirming the government’s commitment to efficient revenue collection and increased transparency in park operations.
