Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd.) and nine others remain in captivity one week after they were abducted by armed men in Tsiga town, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
AFRIPOST had reported that the former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was taken hostage last Wednesday when over 100 gunmen stormed his residence in a coordinated midnight attack.
Kidnappers demand ransom
Sources indicate that the kidnappers have reached out to Tsiga’s family, demanding a N250 million ransom for his release.
However, details regarding any ongoing negotiations remain unclear.
Authorities suspect informants’ role
The Chairman of Bakori Local Government, Alhaji Aliyu Mai Chitta, confirmed that security operatives are making efforts to secure the hostages’ release.
However, he raised suspicions that informants may have aided the attack.
“If not for informants, how would the bandits have known he was in town, let alone come specifically to abduct him?” Mai Chitta questioned while addressing journalists at the Katsina State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Despite concerns about insider involvement, he assured that security agencies are actively working to bring the victims home safely.
Community prays for Tsiga’s safe return
In the wake of the abduction, residents—particularly women in the community—have intensified prayers for Tsiga’s freedom.
A local resident highlighted that his generosity toward the less privileged has moved many to seek divine intervention on his behalf.
The situation has heightened fears about security in Katsina State, as attacks by bandits continue to threaten lives and property in the region.
