The House of Representatives is set to discuss four key tax bills today, February 12, 2025. These bills were sent to the National Assembly in 2024 by President Bola Tinubu for legislative review.
President Tinubu had, on September 3, 2024, submitted the bills based on recommendations from the Taiwo Oyedele-led Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.
The proposed laws include the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, which aims to establish a structured tax framework, and the Tax Administration Bill, designed to create a clear legal basis for tax operations and minimize disputes.
Also under consideration is the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, which seeks to replace the Federal Inland Revenue Service Act and introduce the Nigeria Revenue Service. Additionally, the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill proposes setting up a tax tribunal and a tax ombudsman.
A lawmaker, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the scheduled debate, stating, “They will be debated today.”
