Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has dismissed perceived hostilities among politicians, describing them as mere theatrics meant to amuse the public.
Speaking at his 60th birthday thanksgiving service held at St. Martins’ Catholic Church in Isan Ekiti on Sunday, Fayemi emphasized that many of the supposed political conflicts exist only in the media.
“All these things you see on social media are just for your entertainment,” he remarked, addressing speculation about political discord.
He noted that despite differing political affiliations, Ekiti politicians maintain cordial relationships, citing his close ties with former governors Segun Oni and Ayodele Fayose.
Fayemi underscored the need for unity beyond party lines, stressing that Ekiti’s development should remain the top priority.
“We may belong to different political parties, but above all, we are members of one party—the Ekiti Progressive Party,” he said, praising Governor Biodun Oyebanji for upholding that vision.
Reflecting on his milestone birthday, Fayemi expressed gratitude for his life’s journey, calling it a product of divine grace.
He also commended Oyebanji for his leadership, highlighting their strong bond despite the challenges of politics.
President Bola Tinubu led the tributes, lauding Fayemi’s role in the 2013 merger that birthed the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“As a two-term governor, he served the people through difficult economic times, leaving a lasting impact on Ekiti,” Tinubu stated, wishing him continued success.
Governor Oyebanji also celebrated Fayemi, acknowledging his mentorship and dedication to public service.
“Ekiti people are proud of your achievements. It has been 60 years of progressive impact,” he said.
The event was graced by prominent figures, including former Ekiti State governors Niyi Adebayo and Segun Oni, Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, and other political and business leaders.
