The Imo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the abductors of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) president, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, who was kidnapped in Owerri on Saturday.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Henry Okoye, clarified that Mr. Igboayaka was not arrested but remains missing.
“The Imo Police Command has commenced an investigation to ascertain the whereabouts of the OYC President, Comrade Igboayaka,” Okoye stated, urging anyone with useful information to assist the police.
AFRIPOST had yesterday reported that Mr. Igboayaka was abducted around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday by gunmen dressed in black. Witnesses said about seven armed men stormed the scene in a Sienna and a Lexus SUV before whisking him away.
A source disclosed that since the abduction, all attempts by OYC members, family, and friends to reach him have been unsuccessful, as his mobile lines remain switched off.
Reacting to the incident, the President of the Igbo National Council (INC), Chilos Godsent, called on the police to intensify efforts in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.
“His followers, family, and friends are deeply worried. They need to know his whereabouts as soon as possible,” Godsent stated.
