The trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), resumed on Monday at the Federal High Court before Justice Binta Nyako.
This follows a controversy over her earlier attempt to step down from the case.
The proceedings had been halted on September 24, 2024, after Kanu openly expressed a lack of confidence in Justice Nyako, prompting her to recuse herself.
However, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, John Tsoho, returned the case to her, stating that Kanu must submit a formal motion requesting her withdrawal.
At Monday’s hearing, Justice Nyako clarified that her recusal had not been officially accepted.
She advised Kanu’s legal team, led by Aloy Ejimakor, to file a formal application if they still wished for her to withdraw from the case.
