Nnamdi Kanu accuses Judge of bias, claims ‘a lot is happening’ in Nigeria

Must read

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, sparked a dramatic moment in court on Monday, alleging judicial bias and corruption while declaring that “a lot is happening in this country.”

Speaking before Justice Binta Nyako at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Kanu insisted that she could not preside over his case fairly, accusing her of seeking favors due to her son and relatives’ alleged involvement in corruption cases.

“Why is it that when it comes to my case, they turn the law upside down?” he exclaimed.

Kanu’s outburst came after the court indefinitely suspended his terrorism trial, prolonging a legal battle that has spanned nearly a decade.

Kanu was first arrested in 2015 on charges including treasonable felony, incitement, and running an unlawful organization. He spent over a year in detention before being granted bail in April 2017 under strict conditions.

However, in September 2017, his residence in Abia State was raided by the military during “Operation Python Dance.” He subsequently disappeared and was later revealed to have fled Nigeria.

For nearly four years, his whereabouts remained unknown until June 2021, when the Nigerian government confirmed his arrest in Kenya and extradition to Nigeria. Since then, he has faced a series of legal proceedings, with his trial marked by controversy and delays.

With the latest adjournment, uncertainty continues to surround Kanu’s case, leaving questions about the next steps in his prolonged legal battle.
