The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended Gbadebo Sodiq for allegedly breaking into a residence and stealing valuables worth N373,000 in the Eleweran area of Abeokuta.
Command spokesperson CSP Omolola Odutola confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, revealing that the incident was reported on February 7, 2025, by the homeowner, Akeem Saka.
According to Odutola, Saka informed the police that burglars had entered his home and stolen an Infinix Smart 9 phone worth N148,000, an Oppo F9 valued at N120,000, a small Tecno phone priced at N30,000, and a bag containing N75,000 in cash.
During the investigation, Saka mentioned that he suspected one of his tenants, leading officers from the Anti-Crime Section to detain two women, Ewatooyin Adebayo and Mariam Atobatele, for questioning.
Further inquiries revealed that one of the detained women had left the door unlocked on the night of February 6, 2025, which allowed Gbadebo Sodiq to enter the house and steal the items.
Sodiq was later arrested in Lafenwa while attempting to sell the stolen phones. He reportedly confessed to the crime, and the stolen phones were successfully recovered.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
