The Kebbi State Government has begun preparations to sponsor the mass wedding of 300 couples, scheduled for February 27.
Chairman of the organising committee, Suleiman Argungu, disclosed this to journalists on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi, stating that the initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS), a non-governmental organisation.
According to Argungu, various committees have been set up to conduct essential medical screenings, including pregnancy tests, genotype tests, and HIV/AIDS tests, as well as to ensure compliance with all lawful marriage requirements in the state.
He explained that the initiative is in line with Governor Nasir Idris’ promise during the last mass wedding to continue supporting less privileged individuals who wish to get married.
“The administration of Governor Idris will provide N180,000 as dowry for each bride from the 21 local government areas of the state.
“In addition, the couples will receive essential items, including room furniture and foodstuffs, to help them establish a stable marital home,” Argungu stated.
He added that the wedding ceremony will be conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions, following extensive consultations with Islamic scholars to ensure it aligns with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
