Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has prohibited police personnel from carrying assault rifles while dressed in civilian clothing.

During a virtual meeting with senior police officials on February 10, 2025, the IGP emphasized the need for professionalism, warning tactical units against abuse of power and improper dressing.

He stressed that all officers must wear their designated uniforms while on duty to maintain discipline and public confidence.

Egbetokun also issued a strong warning against human rights violations, stating that any officer found guilty of such offences would face strict penalties.

In addition, he banned the arbitrary transfer of cases without his direct approval, citing concerns over delayed justice and unnecessary hardship on affected individuals.

The police chief urged officers to uphold ethical standards and avoid actions that could damage the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.

He reiterated his commitment to reforms aimed at improving law enforcement operations and strengthening public trust in the police.
