The Federal High Court in Abuja has suspended the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), indefinitely.
The case was put on hold after Justice Binta Nyako recused herself from presiding over the matter on September 24, 2024.
Justice Nyako stepped down following Kanu’s request, citing a lack of confidence in her ability to handle his trial fairly.
As a result, she transferred the case file to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, John Tsoho.
However, reports indicate that Tsoho later returned the file to Nyako for her to continue with the proceedings.
Kanu is facing terrorism-related charges brought against him by the Federal Government. He has remained in detention since 2021 when he was rearrested in Kenya and forcibly returned to Nigeria.
