Police ASP found dead in Niger

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Shafi’u Bawa, was discovered dead in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State on Saturday.

The incident was reported by his father, Usman Bawa, a resident of the Rigasa area in Kontagora, who alerted authorities about his son’s sudden demise.

Sources revealed that Bawa was found unresponsive in his room on Saturday afternoon. Upon receiving the distress call, police officers arrived at the scene and transported the body to the General Hospital in Kontagora, where medical personnel confirmed his death.

His remains were subsequently handed over to his family for burial in line with Islamic customs.

A statement from the police confirmed the development: “On Saturday, 08/02/25, at approximately 14:10 hours, Mr. Usman Bawa of Rigasa, Kontagora, reported that his son, ASP Shafi’u Usman Bawa (AP/No 337979), was found lifeless. The body was taken to the General Hospital, Kontagora, where a doctor confirmed his passing. The corpse has been released to the family for burial according to Islamic rites. Further updates will be provided as necessary.”

Efforts to reach the Niger State Police Command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, for comments were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages.
