A group of unidentified gunmen, clad in black and reportedly numbering seven, have kidnapped Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), in Imo State.
Chilos Godsent, President of the Igbo National Council (INC), confirmed the abduction in a statement released on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
According to Godsent, Igboayaka was taken from Works Layout in Owerri, Imo State, on the evening of Saturday, February 8, 2025.
The assailants, who arrived in a Sienna and a Lexus SUV, forcibly moved him to an undisclosed location around 7 p.m.
He added that Igboayaka’s family remains in distress over the incident.
Godsent called on the Imo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force to act swiftly in locating and rescuing Igboayaka while ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.
“The Igbo National Council (INC) urges the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, Imo State Command, to immediately investigate the abduction of Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), and make their findings public,” part of the statement read.
As of the time of this report, the Imo Police Command has not issued an official response to the incident.
