The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted hazy weather conditions across the country from Sunday to Tuesday.
According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja, moderate dust haze is expected on Sunday, with horizontal visibility ranging between 2km and 5km across the northern and North-Central regions.
“Localized visibilities of 1km or less are expected in parts of Yobe, Kano, Katsina, Gombe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Jigawa, and Niger,” the agency stated.
However, parts of Kogi, Kwara, and Benue will experience a hazy atmosphere with scattered clouds. In the southern region, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected, along with possible afternoon or evening thunderstorms in parts of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Ondo, Edo, and Delta.
On Monday, NiMet predicts a continuation of moderate dust haze in the North and North-Central regions, with visibility ranging between 2km and 5km. Similar to Sunday, Kogi, Kwara, and Benue will experience hazy conditions with a few clouds, while thunderstorms are expected in Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta.
By Tuesday, the northern and North-Central regions will still be under moderate dust haze with visibility between 2km and 5km. The southern parts of the country will see sunny spells during the day, with chances of afternoon or evening thunderstorms in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Ondo, Edo, and Delta.
NiMet advised the public to take necessary precautions due to dust particles in the air, warning that individuals with asthma and other respiratory conditions should be particularly cautious.
“Strong winds may precede thunderstorms in affected areas, so residents should take adequate precautions and adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities,” the agency warned.
NiMet also urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from its offices for better flight planning and advised the public to stay updated on weather conditions via its official website, www.nimet.gov.ng.
