Nigeria moves to enhance mobile network quality with Swedish partnership

In a bid to enhance mobile network services across Nigeria, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has entered into a strategic partnership with SWEDFUND, the Swedish government’s investment agency.

The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, formalized the collaboration last week by signing a grant agreement in the presence of Sweden’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Annika Hahn-Englund.

The financial support from SWEDFUND will facilitate the launch of the Crowdsourcing Quality of Experience Project, a new initiative aimed at evaluating mobile network performance from users’ perspectives.

This project will utilize real-time data to identify common issues such as call drops, sluggish internet speeds, and poor connectivity.

By analyzing this data, the NCC intends to refine its regulatory strategies and enhance service coverage, particularly in underserved areas.

Additionally, the initiative will hold telecom providers accountable for delivering improved services to consumers.

This development marks a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.

If successful, the initiative could serve as a model for other African nations striving to improve telecommunications quality.
