Insecurity: Army achieve major victory in Zamfara, kill over 50 terrorists

Must read

Nigerian Army forces operating under Operation FANSAN have dealt a significant blow to terrorist groups in Zamfara State’s northwest region.

This is as the Army successfully eliminated over 50 militants and injured at least 25 others, including high-ranking commanders associated with Bello Turji and Sani Mai Nasara (Sani Black).

During a fierce engagement under Operation FANSAR YAN BINDIGA, troops neutralized several notorious figures, including Kachallah Sanni Bammuwa, Kachallah Auta, Audu Gajere, Kabiru Jangeru, Dan-Gajere (son of Audu Jabbi), and Bako Malaika, all of whom were infamous for terrorizing communities around Tungan Dan Musa.

This successful assault marks a historic breakthrough, as it is the first time in years that Nigerian forces have managed to penetrate and establish dominance in Tungan Fulani Hills, a heavily fortified terrorist stronghold in the Zurmi-Shinkafi axis.

According to counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama, previous military attempts to access the valley had ended in failure due to strong enemy resistance, resulting in casualties and damage to military assets.

The area became particularly notorious after a deadly 2019 ambush, where Turji and Sani Black’s fighters killed a Major and 16 soldiers during a troop rotation near Mashema village, forcing the military to withdraw from the district.

Similarly, on August 30, 2024, insurgents launched another devastating attack in Kwashebawa village, where they destroyed Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and killed two soldiers.

Following this latest military success, defence officials have announced the launch of ‘Operation Show No Mercy,’ pledging to sustain the offensive until terrorist elements are completely eliminated.

“The objective is not just to dislodge these criminals but to wipe them out entirely,” a military source declared.

“Bello Turji, Sani Black, and their fighters must either surrender unconditionally or face total destruction. There will be no negotiations, no escape routes, and no safe havens.”
