A massive explosion in Sabon Wuse, located in Tafa Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, has reduced vehicles, shops, and food supplies to ashes.
The incident occurred when a tanker was discharging gas at a filling station in the area.
The resulting fire, which broke out around 11 p.m. on Saturday, raged for several hours before firefighters arrived to contain the flames.
According to local sources, the blast sent panic across nearby communities, forcing residents to flee their homes.
Abdul Sabon-Wusa, a resident, described the intensity of the explosion, stating that it extended to parts of a neighbouring petrol station, consuming shops and parked vehicles.
“We are grateful that no lives were lost and no one was injured.
“Had this happened during the day when people were busy with their businesses, it would have been a far worse tragedy for Niger State,” he said.
He added that the fire’s height and intensity were visible throughout Sabon Wuse, underscoring the severity of the incident.
