Police in Nasarawa have arrested a suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of a student at the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa (FPN).
The tragic incident occurred on February 6, 2025, following an altercation between two students at a residence near ECWA Peace College, Shagari Road.
According to a statement released by Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed, the police received a distress report from a resident, Mercy Bassey, around 2:00 a.m.
She reported a violent confrontation between one of her tenants and his friend.
Upon arrival at the scene, detectives discovered Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student, lying in a pool of blood.
He was immediately rushed to General Hospital Nasarawa, where he was pronounced dead.
His body was later deposited in the morgue for a post-mortem examination.
Following a swift investigation, the police arrested the prime suspect, John Gambo, an ND2 Banking and Finance student at the same institution.
“The suspect confessed to attacking the deceased with both an axe and a knife,” CP Mohammed stated, adding that both weapons were recovered from the crime scene.
The Commissioner of Police has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
