Ex-convict jailed for theft, intimidation in Niger

Must read

A Senior Magistrate Court in Bosso, Niger State, has sentenced a 44-year-old man, Abdulmutalib Abdullahi, to two years in a correctional facility without the option of a fine.

Abdullahi’s conviction followed his guilty plea to charges of criminal trespass, intimidation, and theft.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) submitted by the Bosso Divisional Police Command, Abdullahi had recently completed a jail term in January for a similar crime.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Angela Jah told the court that Abdullahi unlawfully entered the home of Mohammed Mohammed Shaba and stole several valuable items, including an HP laptop valued at N500,000, a Samsung Galaxy S9 phone, and other electronics.

The offenses are punishable under Sections 288, 349, and 397 of the Penal Code.

While delivering the verdict, Presiding Senior Magistrate Evelyn Christopher Auta emphasized that Abdullahi’s repeated criminal behavior demonstrated a lack of remorse.

She ruled that his imprisonment was necessary to protect the community and serve as a deterrent to others.
