A 21-year-old sales attendant, Abdullahi Dalhatu, was brought before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna on Thursday over allegations of stealing phone accessories valued at N3.9 million.

Dalhatu, a resident of Kinkinau, Kaduna, is facing charges of criminal conspiracy and theft.

According to the prosecutor, Chidi Leo, the case was reported on January 25 by Haruna Jafar, who shares the same address as the defendant.

Leo stated that Dalhatu, employed at “Jafar Jafar Phones and Accessories” in Kawo, allegedly collaborated with two accomplices—who are still at large—to steal the items from his employer’s shop.

Leo further revealed that investigations led to Dalhatu’s arrest, and during questioning, he reportedly admitted to the crime.

The prosecutor noted that the offences violate Sections 59 and 271 of the Kaduna State Penal Code (2017), with Section 271 prescribing up to three years of imprisonment for theft upon conviction.

Dalhatu, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Presiding over the case, Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted the defendant bail set at N200,000, requiring a surety of equal amount who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction. The surety’s address will also be verified.

The case has been adjourned until March 20 for further proceedings.
