FRSC officer shot during crackdown on fake number plates in Lagos

A yet-to-be-identified official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) sustained gunshot injuries after being shot by a security officer dressed in a police uniform.

The incident occurred during an enforcement exercise by FRSC personnel under the Lagos Sector Command as part of a nationwide campaign against fake number plates.

Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, the Lagos Sector Commander, was overseeing the operation at the time.

While he refrained from commenting directly on the shooting, he urged journalists to remain patient until a thorough investigation determines the facts surrounding the incident.

It remains unclear whether the shooter is an officer of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and the Lagos police command has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

In response to the incident, the Lagos Sector Command of the FRSC has suspended its enforcement drive against fake number plates.

Hamzat confirmed the suspension during a press briefing on Thursday, following the first day of the operation.
