The Kaduna State government has announced that its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system will be completed within three years.
Officials from the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA) shared this update during a visit to the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
They confirmed that a dedicated BRT lane will be constructed from Kawo Bridge to the southern part of the city.
Leading the delegation, Mr. Musa Luka stated that median separators on major highways would be repurposed for BRT lanes to ease traffic congestion.
He emphasized that the project would enhance road infrastructure, improve nighttime security with better street lighting, and create a more inclusive transport system accommodating Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
Luka assured that all stakeholders would be engaged in the process, and potential challenges had been identified for smooth implementation.
The BRT lanes will extend from Monday Market to Kawo and other key routes.
The Kaduna government has also sought technical guidance from the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) to ensure effective execution.
NUJ Kaduna Chairman, Alhaji Abdulgafar Alabelewe, welcomed the initiative and praised the government for involving the media early in the process.
He assured that journalists would help raise public awareness about the project.
The BRT system, once completed, is expected to ease urban traffic and enhance Kaduna’s status as a major economic hub in Northern Nigeria.
