NLC criticizes FG over telecom tariff hike, says no consultation made

Must read

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has accused the Federal Government of failing to consult with the union before deciding to increase telecommunications tariff rates.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels TV on Tuesday, February 4, NLC President Joe Ajaero expressed concerns over what he described as a recurring pattern of government decisions being made without input from the labour union.

Ajaero noted that this was not the first instance of such exclusion, citing the previous hike in electricity tariffs as another example.

He emphasized that the lack of engagement with stakeholders remains a major issue in the NLC’s dealings with the government.

Regarding ongoing discussions on the national minimum wage, Ajaero stated that the government primarily focused on its financial capacity while neglecting the economic hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians.

He also warned that the telecom tariff increase would impose an additional burden on citizens, a concern the NLC had previously raised in its negotiations.
