Katsina community gets electricity after 50years of blackout

For the first time in its 50-year history, Yandadi, a community in Kusada Local Government Area of Katsina State, has been connected to electricity.

The milestone was announced by the council chairman, Rabiu Aliyu-Kusada, during an interactive session with journalists in Kusada on Tuesday.

Aliyu-Kusada revealed that the community, home to thousands of residents, had remained in darkness for decades until Governor Dikko Radda’s administration facilitated its connection to the national grid.

He further noted that the government had also restored power to several areas previously disconnected due to damage caused by heavy rainfall.

Expressing his joy, a resident, Baba Audu, recalled how the community had long witnessed electricity poles passing through without ever having access to power.

“Now, for the first time in over 50 years, we have electricity. We are happy,” he said.

Similarly, a local barber, Bala Wanzan, described the development as life-changing, stating that access to electricity would boost the local economy.

“With this, I’ll be able to use my clippers and become a modern barber,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Katsina State government has commenced the construction of a bridge in Dan-Ashita village, linking over 10 communities in Ingawa Local Government Area.

The project, approved by Governor Radda, is expected to ease transportation challenges and improve access to markets.

Residents, including motorcycle riders who frequently use the route, praised the government’s intervention. Hamisu Ashita, a commercial motorcyclist, explained that during the rainy season, they often had to take alternative routes through Jigawa State due to flooding.

“Once the bridge is completed, it will end our long-standing challenges in transporting farm produce to the market,” he said.

The projects in Yandadi and Ingawa are part of the Katsina State government’s broader efforts to enhance infrastructure and improve the livelihoods of residents across the state.
