President Bola Tinubu has called on the National Assembly to approve an upward revision of the 2025 budget, raising it from the initial N49.7 trillion to N54.2 trillion.
This request marks an increase of N4.5 trillion from the original proposal Tinubu presented to lawmakers in December 2024.
The president’s appeal was conveyed in an official letter, which was read aloud by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Wednesday’s plenary session in the red chamber.
While the letter did not detail the reasons behind the proposed adjustment, it signals a shift in the government’s fiscal plans for the year.
Tinubu’s original budget proposal, presented during his appearance before the National Assembly last December, outlined key allocations for infrastructure, security, and economic development.
The request for an increase suggests potential adjustments in government spending priorities to address emerging economic demands and national development goals.
