The police have arrested a 50-year-old man, Ado Haruna, for masterminding the kidnap of his nephew, Bashiru Anas, and his family in Kaduna State.
Haruna, a resident of Unguwar Kanawa, Dutse Abba, reportedly received N200,000 out of the N13 million ransom paid to the kidnappers for the release of the victims.
Parading the suspect, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed that the kidnappers also received four motorcycles and Airtel recharge cards worth N300,000 as part of the ransom.
Adejobi explained that Haruna led a team of three bandits—Shago Yaro, Tanimu Ayuba, and Lamido Dantajiri—to Anas’ residence at around 1 a.m. However, upon arrival, they discovered that their intended target was not at home. The gang proceeded to abduct his two wives, three children, younger brother, and his brother’s wife.
The victims were held captive for 60 days in a forest between Buruku and Sabo Birni.
Haruna, who claimed to be both a farmer and a vigilante, admitted to his role in the abduction.
“It’s true that I led the bandits to Alhaji Anas’ house. Anas is my son—my nephew. I know one of the bandits who asked me to show them his house,” he confessed.
The police have vowed to ensure justice is served as investigations continue into the case.
