An Elder and other community members have died while undergoing treatment at an unauthorized hospital named Dada’s Clinic and Maternity Ltd., in the Gaube community of Kuje Area Council, Abuja.
The community elder died after undergoing a hernia surgery at the hospital.
Also other patients from the community where the hospital is situated have suffered complications from procedures performed at the hospital and required urgent medical attention elsewhere.
While some of these patients survived, some were not so lucky and died as a result of medical complications.
During the shutdown of the hospital, a man identified as Sabiu, who claimed to be managing the hospital, was arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.
Sabiu admitted that the facility was not registered with the Private Health Establishments Registration and Monitoring Committee (PHERMC).
Following the report of the hospital by the community to the FCTA authorities, the hospital was sealed of by the PHERMC.
The operation was led by the FCT Director of Medical and Diagnostics Services
PHERMC noted that the hospital was unpainted, deteriorating structure with burglar-proof bars at the entrance.
It also lacked essential features such as windows, doors, a reception area, nursing station, and basic sanitary facilities like bathrooms and toilets.
The building comprised four rooms, a common area, and an unfinished extension in poor sanitary condition.
At the time of sealing the hospital, three patients, including an elderly individual on intravenous therapy, were found admitted.
They were all in stable condition and subsequently transferred to Kuje General Hospital for appropriate medical care.
