The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, has arrested 28 individuals, including a 55-year-old man, Ayodele Ijilakinro, who had recently completed a three-year prison sentence for a similar crime.
Despite his prior conviction for sexual assault, Ijilakinro was apprehended again for engaging in criminal activities.
He was presented alongside 27 other suspects who were arrested across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State over the past week.
State Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, shared details about the suspects’ offenses, revealing that 24 of them were involved in various criminal acts.
Ijilakinro, who had been imprisoned for assault in 2021, admitted to engaging in inappropriate behavior with several women, some of which he claimed were consensual. He confessed to coercing others and explained that he had met some of his victims while traveling between Akure and Idanre.
Though he was released in February of the previous year, Ijilakinro resumed criminal activities, which led to his recent arrest. He mentioned taking women to hotels for food, drinks, and illegal activities.
Commander Adeleye reassured the public that despite these arrests, Ondo State remains calm and safe, with no major incidents such as land disputes, labor unrest, or human trafficking reported.
However, he did mention one case of farmer-herder conflict and confirmed the arrest of three suspected kidnappers.
The alleged kidnappers, identified as Akpan, Alimi, and Emmanuel, were arrested in Akure, Emure, and Ipeme-Owo, respectively. Additionally, Adu Ojo was arrested for ATM fraud, where he was found to have trapped victims’ cards and withdrawn funds from their accounts.
Other significant arrests included Mafo and Asara for conspiracy and assault, Idris Umaru for illegal grazing on a farmer’s land, and three suspected burglars—Oluwafemi, Francis, and Sunday. Lawal was apprehended for stealing mobile phones and other items, while Ismaila Kazim was arrested for robbing commercial motorcycle riders.
Despite these incidents, the Amotekun Corps reassured the public that Ondo State remains a safe place for business and social activities.
Adeleye confirmed that all 28 suspects will undergo profiling, with those found guilty set to face legal proceedings the following day.
