Suspected cultists kill man in Ibadan, police launch investigation

Must read

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of an unidentified man by suspected cultists in the early hours of Sunday in Ibadan.

According to police reports, the incident occurred near a popular lounge in the Bodija area of the city. The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, revealed in a statement that the victim was chased down before being shot dead.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the murder was cult-related,” Osifeso stated.

He further disclosed that security personnel had been deployed to the area to restore order, assuring residents that normalcy had returned.

Addressing rumors circulating on social media, Osifeso denied claims that police officers accidentally shot and killed a bystander, reportedly a student, while attempting to disperse crowds at the crime scene.

“There is no truth to the reports that an onlooker was killed during or after police intervention,” he clarified.

The case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Iyaganku for further inquiries.

Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ayodele Sonubi, has also assigned a deputy commissioner to oversee the investigation and ensure justice is served.
