Police operatives in Anambra State have apprehended a 32-year-old man, identified as Joshua Simeon, for allegedly attempting to traffic a five-year-old girl, Nkemdilim Jacob.
The suspect, a native of Ohaozara in Ebonyi State, was caught while trying to flee with the child.
According to reports, Simeon was intercepted by officers from the Ogidi Area Command following credible intelligence.
He was arrested at Nkpor Central Park in Idemili North Local Government Area while already aboard a commercial vehicle heading to an undisclosed location.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the young girl had been taken from her family in Umuota Village, Obosi, also in Idemili North LGA.
“The suspect is currently in custody, undergoing interrogation to uncover his motives and determine if he is linked to a broader child trafficking syndicate,” Ikenga stated.
He further mentioned that efforts are underway to locate the child’s parents or relatives to facilitate her safe reunion with her family.
