NCAA summons Kenya Airways over passenger dispute

Must read

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned Kenya Airways to its headquarters in Abuja following a viral video showing a confrontation between a Nigerian passenger and an airline staff member at the Nairobi transfer desk.

The passenger, identified as Gloria Omisore, was en route from Lagos to Manchester with layovers in Nairobi and Paris.

In the widely shared footage, she expressed frustration over her treatment during a 17-hour layover, alleging that Kenya Airways failed to provide essential items such as food and sanitary products.

She also cited medical concerns related to blood clots.

In response, an airline staff member refused further assistance, informing Omisore that she would no longer be allowed on their flights.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions online, with opinions divided over the conduct of both parties.

Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, stated that the authority is investigating the matter under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023 to ensure passenger rights are upheld.

Kenya Airways later issued a statement explaining that Omisore did not have the required Schengen visa for her transit through Paris.

The airline claimed it offered her an alternative route through London, which she declined. They further alleged that she reacted aggressively by throwing used sanitary pads at their staff, an action they deemed inappropriate.

The NCAA has assured the public of its commitment to protecting travelers’ rights and is currently meeting with Kenya Airways to address the situation.
