EFCC Chairman berates Nigerians for supporting corrupt leaders

Must read

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has expressed concern over the contradictory stance of Nigerians on corruption, noting that while many citizens call for an end to corruption, they continue to support corrupt leaders.

Speaking during a visit by officials of the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), led by Chris Olukolade, Olukoyede lamented the public’s conflicting views on corruption.

He pointed out that while Nigerians often criticize corrupt practices among their leaders, they also rally behind them when those leaders face legal prosecution.

He emphasized the EFCC’s unwavering commitment to fighting corruption across the country.

“Corruption and financial crimes are among the major obstacles to Nigeria’s development,” Olukoyede stated.

“A society that is ready to progress requires the collective effort of both the government and the citizens.”

He further explained that this issue has driven his dedication to the anti-corruption cause, assuring that the EFCC would continue to carry out its mandate within the bounds of the law.

Olukoyede urged Nigerians to collaborate with the EFCC in its efforts to tackle corrupt financial practices within the nation’s leadership.
