APC endorses Oyetola’s 2026 re-election bid

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has pledged its full support for former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in his bid to contest the 2026 gubernatorial election.

This decision was made during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Osun West Senatorial District APC, held in Iwo on Friday.

The stakeholders declared that Oyetola has the right of first refusal for the party’s gubernatorial ticket, with the meeting, chaired by Akin Omolaoye, passing a vote of confidence in the party’s leadership at both the national and state levels.

Omolaoye stated that the APC will field the best candidate to secure a victory in the 2026 governorship election.

He added that Oyetola would remain the party’s candidate unless he chooses not to run.

The party leaders also issued a warning to various groups within the party, instructing them to halt any memos or statements related to the party’s candidacy for the 2026 election.

“Party unity is paramount and should take precedence over the personal ambitions of any member,” the leaders said.

They further urged external parties to refrain from actions or statements that could cause division within the APC.

Omolaoye also called on the party leadership to consider zoning the ticket to Osun West should Oyetola decide not to contest, for the sake of fairness and balance.

He stressed that Osun West is the APC’s stronghold and could potentially unseat the current ruling party if given the opportunity to represent the APC in the upcoming election.

“We are not backing any specific candidate yet, but if Oyetola steps down, Osun West should be the one to fly the APC flag,” Omolaoye explained.

“There are over a hundred qualified candidates in this district, and our focus is on selecting the best one when the time comes.”

Notable attendees of the meeting included former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, former Speakers Mojeed Alabi and Adejare Bello, and Senator Mudashir Hussein.
