Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing internal conflicts within the party as his primary reason.
His resignation was conveyed in a letter addressed to the chairman of PDP Ward 8 in Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State.
The letter, dated Thursday, January 30, expressed Nwoko’s disappointment over the party’s internal struggles, which he believes hinder unity and effective governance.
He highlighted the deep divisions and factional battles within the PDP, stating that these conflicts have made it difficult for leaders to work together in the interest of the people.
He also referenced a recent altercation among key party figures on January 29 as evidence of the party’s growing instability.
“Given the deep divisions and ongoing factionalization within the party, I have made the difficult decision to resign. The recent physical clashes among party officials further highlight the irreconcilable differences that plague the PDP,” Nwoko stated.
While acknowledging the PDP for providing him a platform to contest in the 2023 general elections, the senator noted that the current state of the party in Delta no longer aligns with his political vision or his commitment to his constituents.
“During my campaign, I made firm promises to my people. However, the prevailing structure of the PDP in Delta State has made it challenging to fulfill those commitments. After careful consideration, I believe stepping away from the party is necessary to uphold my obligations to my constituents,” he added.
Despite leaving the PDP, Nwoko reaffirmed his dedication to public service and the advancement of his people.
He emphasized that his decision was made in the best interest of those he represents.
