A fatal accident along the Onitsha-Oba Expressway in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State on Friday claimed the lives of four men, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The incident was confirmed by FRSC Sector Commander Joyce Alexander, who stated that the crash occurred due to route violation, resulting in a head-on collision between a private Toyota Hummer bus with registration number UWN763XA, a government-owned Toyota Hummer bus without a registration number, and a Mercedes-Benz tipper.
Eyewitnesses reported that one of the vehicles was driving against traffic, which led to the crash involving the two other vehicles.
Five male adults were involved in the incident, four of whom died, while one sustained injuries.
The FRSC rescue team was initially hindered in performing their duties due to an attack by local youths from the Oba community.
However, the Anambra State Anti-Tout personnel took over the rescue operation.
The FRSC team has since managed traffic and cleared the wreckage, allowing for the smooth flow of traffic.
In her condolences to the families of the deceased victims, Commander Alexander urged motorists to avoid dangerous driving and route violations, particularly on the expressway.
She also called on the public to cooperate with the FRSC during rescue operations, emphasizing that any delays could result in further loss of life.
“Drive to stay alive; safety is everyone’s responsibility,” she added.
