The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted smuggled goods valued at N77.476 million in Duty Paid Value (DPV) within Ogun State between January 1 and January 27.
Mohammed Shuaibu, the Comptroller of the NCS Ogun 1 Area Command, disclosed this during an interview with journalists on Saturday in Ota, Ogun State.
Shuaibu emphasized that the seizures underscore the command’s unwavering commitment to curbing smuggling and ensuring compliance with customs regulations.
Among the confiscated items were 2,002 bags of foreign rice (50kg each), 6,180 cutlasses, and 6,375 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), among other contraband.
“The Ogun 1 Area Command urges individuals involved in smuggling to abandon such illegal activities, as our officers are vigilant and will apprehend offenders regardless of their tactics,” Shuaibu warned.
He encouraged smugglers to embrace lawful trade practices, which would contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.
Reaffirming the command’s dedication to safeguarding the nation’s borders, he called on the public to support the NCS by providing timely and credible intelligence to combat smuggling and other economic crimes.
